Deep Thoughts...by karen handy
2007
April 16th: In great attempts it is glorious even to fall.
April 14th: Happy 14th Birthday Shandy
2006
September 30--what a day, what a night, what a memory.
Mar 20th: G**est saying ever. (g** meaning: the 1980's slang word) He's my rock! So overused. There are many statements & sayings that use that word in the appropriate manner, including, but not limited to "You rock", "Causeway rocks", "Rock, papers, scissors", "Rock the boat", "Rock the cradle", "Rock on", "Rock out", "Rock IT out", "Old Time Rock and Roll", "Sheetrock", "Shamrock" "Dr. Strock". All acceptable. He's my rock, she's my rock, you're my rock--unacceptable.
March 20th: Best Discoveries of 2005--Inn at Perry Cabin, St. Michael's, Maryland; Snockey's (oysters...OMG), Jazz fest in general, still love Damien Rice, Brandy Carlisle, my farmhouse in Gradyville and the Magic Bullet. TBC. Worst 2006 Discoveries: That Joe Powers shared this web site with the people at work.
Mar 19th: Went to Tom's grave on Saturday, we left him a nickel. If I had a nickel for everytime I wished I could have one more Saturday morning with Tom, I'd be a millionaire. It wasn't that much fun to go to his grave. Thomas C. Finnegan was one of the greatest, nicest people I have ever known. His life shows how a simple life can bring happiness. It's not always about bigger and better...well, sometimes..it is. But it doesn't have to be that way.
Mar. 18th: Happy Belated St. Patrick's Day. And to all you knuckleheads who think that St. Patrick was from Italy, well...he wasn't. That's it. That's all.
Mar 3rd: RIP: Foxy Boyce...how we miss you. Your bark, your piddles, your snapping, your hiding. How we miss you.
Feb 23rd: Happy Birthday, Granny.
February 21st: Causeway life is good. We are getting ready for the BIG SEASON. Hopefully, all of you are too. I am jealous, yet happy for, Ronan Coleman, my escort from Tralee. He's traveling and having the time of his life right now in Singapore. I think it's great. One thing you have to remember is that if you wait until you retire to do everything you dream of...it may be too late. So, if you have a dream destination or experience....do it now, or plan for it now. This way, you will have lived life to the fullest. Happy Bday: Me, Suzi, Granny, Shaina, Aislinn, Brendan, Daria....etc.
Febraury 13th: Welcome aboard the ride of life, Aidan John Boyce. Congrats John, Tara, Connell, Maura, Aislinn on the new addition to the Boyce Family of Glen Mills.
January: Went to Ireland again. Stayed in Donegal and had a fab time. Other than being a bit ill. I love Donegal. It's the fairest county of them all:)
November 30th: So much has happened in one month. Short message this time, please remember Tom Finnegan and Lil Martin---good friends/family of mine who have recently passed away. One word of wisdom, please be sure to cherish and spend time with your elderly friends while they're are well and living, you will be glad you did when they're gone. We love you Tom and Lil---we miss you everyday! RIP
October 30th: Happy Halloween. What a great time of year. The weather is crist and the colors are firey and amazing. Happy All Soul's Day too--that's my favorite holy day. It falls on November 2. Today is Ceili for Kayleigh--we are at BM's office getting some last minute things done before the benefit at 4pm. It's hard to believe it's been 5 years since we started this organization. Thanks to all the Causeway supporters; the past few weeks have been a real blast. Have a great fall season.
September 7th: This entry is difficult for me to begin because so much has happened since I last blogged. The week I spent in Ireland as the Philly Rose of Tralee was fanTAStic. It was a week like no other: meeting 29 wonderful women, touring Ireland, signing autographs and getting photos taken every moment of each day, dining and hydrating at some of the finest establishments in the most beautiful country in the world, etc. My experience Tralee was something shy of surreal. I am thankful to have met each person I met along the way and so glad that I took the time and had the persistence to get to Tralee for it was worth every moment. I am also thrilled that I lived through the most wonderful time of my life. To know that 59 other people and their families also had the time of their lives along with me is pretty flippin' awesome. Up Tralee! Up Philly! Up Claire! Up Tyrone! Up Mayo! Up Offaly(Tullamore too.) Up the Philly Immigration Center! Up Mum and Da! Up Bernie, Ted, Steve and Seamus! Many many more to come.
August 20th: (this is a forecast since I wil be away) Happy 2nd Birthday to Mairead and Happy 3rd Birthday to Olivia.
August 4th: Hey Boyce, McGillian, Conway, Callaghan, Buckton family....what a great time in Outerbanks? Huh? The house, the craic, the laughs, the pool, picking rooms, the food, the sun, the beach, the hot tub, the lightning, the margaritas, the pink strawberry dreams, the guacamole, the games, the deck sessions, the waves, the ghost crabs, Tom's ties, the grill cover that will probably sit in a box until next year, the extra large wooden flip flops, "But it doesn't taaste good", the bushel or half bushel of crabs, the mysterious bathing suit rocks, the lack of bugs (thank God), first day at the Sunset Grill, the drive down to see the house, the oysters, the crab dip, the beautiful bridges, the karaoke machine, Danny and Kevin sing song, Duckie and New York, New York, the drive to Corolla, the rainy shopping day, the morning breakfast, the pancakes with FRESH? fruit, the ring pops, Mary's "story" on the deck, the touchy doctor, the big fish Brian caught??, the noodle races, Gavin's signature skwawk, Connell's swollen face, Mairead dunkin' her head, Brendan finally jumpin in, Gillian and Keiva's duet, Olivia's signature "drowning breast stroke", Tara Anne finding out that Kevin and Jenn were siblings on day 6, Kevin finding out that Tara and Sarah Marie were sisters on the day 7, the target game from the deck, I could go on, but I could cry. We make such good memories down there; thanks for the great time.
August 2rd: Well, it's been a while huh? Sorry about that...life has been busy. Causeway has been on hiatus since June, but fear not, we will be back in action in the fall. Stay tuned for upcoming dates!!! This summer has been great for me. I am going to Ireland to compete in the International Rose of Tralee as the Philly representative; www.roseoftralee.ie. And am also heading to good ole' Donegal to compete in the All-Ireland fleadh. I am preparing for my trip in between booking Causeway gigs for the fall and in between a busy work schedule. It will be worth it when I get there, no doubt about that!! I wanted to welcome into the world the following wee ones: Baby Ted Aidan, Baby Aidan David and Baby Ava Pauline. Three new babies who were born into the world with very special parents....they're very cute.
March 7th: Yesterday it was almost 70 degrees and now today, it's flippin snowin. It's not easy living in this fluctuating climate. Hopefully the weather will cooperate for the St. Patrick's Day parade in Philly on Sunday. Make sure to get out and support your Irish bands, pubs and organizations. This is the big season. Happy St. Patrick's Day to you all.
February 8th: Nine days til me birthday. Ewww. Rattlin bog, as many of you know, is a song with many words about trees, branches, birds, eggs, fleas and specs. I have always done this song and have never had an issue with remembering the words until one time at Kildare's Jo Mac (we'll call her) stared at me straight in the eyes and confused the bejeeziz out of me by babbling all sorts of different words, phrases and jibber jabber so I would mess up the words of this famous, somewhat silly, annoying Irish song. Much to my dismay, Jo Mac was able to success in her efforts. She is banned from all things Causeway beginning today and throughout 2005. Thank you, Jo Mac, we'll see you next year. Up Jo Mac and Up Rattlin Bog.
January 18th: Best discoveries in 2004 Continued: Estee Lauder Carrott Face Cream, Damien Rice, Mindy Smith, Electronic Fiddle Tuners....to be continued still. Disclaimer: These discoveries do not represent things that were actually discovered or invented during this 365 day period, but rather represent personal discoveries by the author of this publication, Karen Boyce, during her experience of 2004.
January 4th: It's a new year. I guess making and keeping resolutions is a grand idea at this time of the year. Good luck with that. Best discoveries in 2004: Fat Angel beer, East Falls...to be continued.
2005
October 20th: Fall is a time to reflect. Reflect on good friends...people who make a difference in your life; people who care about you and your well-being; people with whom you enjoy spending time; people you love; people who make you laugh; people you trust; people who have patience....sounds like a good friend, huh? Are you that type of person? See...time to reflect.
August 4th: Top Quotes from Ireland: "Who wants some Eeeaaaaaaggggs" Barney Boyce; "Does my hair look ok?" May 11, 2004 Happy Birthday, Sharla! AKA SASHA. Hey, I think it's a cool name. I am sorry, Sharla, I had "Atlantic City brain." We had a great time at the party though. Hope to see you, your friends, and our main man, Roger, at a Causeway gig soon. We love you, Detroit!
May 7, 2004 "ADD adults generally report they feel constantly bombarded with thoughts touching on a hundred subjects at once. This is especially true when they are bored. The majority of these thoughts have nothing to do with the tasks at hand, causing the ADD adult to be distracted, overwhelmed, confused, and unfocused." Brian Clemson, MD
April 9, 2004 "There will also be fires to put out and upset people to appease. You never know what is coming down the road. Be calm, think rationally, and wait for the next development... when that happens, you will be better equipped to make the best decision. Once a decision is made, move on. Do not ponder" Michael A. Boyce 1/13/04- Up Lisa Carr!
April 8, 2004 "Love knows not its depth until the hour of separation." "A man is never worth your tears, and the one who is, won't make you cry."
April 6, 2004 Be healthy this month: Next time you go out to eat, stay away from the butter and anything else that is high in fat or calories. You will be glad you did, trust me.
March 19, 2004 This is for a man named Fud. Since tomorrow is his special day, we're sending a Causeway wish his way: Roses are red. Violets are blue. Next time I'm playing, I'll send a shout-out to you..test one, two.....two....two. Happy Birthday, Fudala.
March 18, 2004 How's young Duckie? Is he still young? I am not so sure? Happy Birthday to you, Duck, hope you had fun and that your wee head's not too sore. Love, Ka
March 8, 2004: Sometimes we eat peanuts. Sometimes we throw them. Sometimes we hide them in weird places. Crazy Carl should ban peanuts from his bar; they only cause trouble and make a big mess. Good times had by all...Up E! Up Brian Dalton! Up peanuts.
March 5, 2004: Cures and remedies for Laryngitis: Throat Coat Tea with honey, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Oregano Oil Extract, Vinegar, Throat Power Spray.
February 19, 2004: To the world, you just might one person, but to one person, you just might be the world.
January 15, 2004: Happy Birthday, Tom Finnegan. Famous quotes: 1. I have been doing that All Me Life! 2. More than you can shake a stick at... 3. One foot on a banana peel; one on a skateboard. 4. I know, I know, I know. 5. QUIET! (to the dogs of course.) Happy 86th, Tom, we love you.
January 13, 2004 Up Naples. It's all about reading people without telling them your trying to read them, right? If you tell someone you are trying to read them, it ruins the whole process of the social penetration theory. Sharing a soda--now that is tight. Up Fud!
2003
December 15, 2003 Sometimes I like Jim from Darby. He's one cool cat. Up Jim. Up Darby.
December 14, 2003 Happy One Year Anniversary to this newsletter, "Deep Thoughts."

May 22, 2003 Sometimes people think I tell stories without a point. Sometimes people think I tell stories with four points. See here I go again. Up Abbey Mahady!
2002
January 13, 2002 Sometimes Gerry's brothers put crazy things on our guestbook. Sometimes they write about Japanese baseball players. Sometimes I like Japanese baseball players. Most of the time, I don't. Up Gerry Clark!
December 26, 2002 Sometimes we pretend we are a hip-hop-rock- band. Sometimes we play Irish music. Sometimes we wish the stage would open up and swallow us whole. Up RP McMurphy's! Up McDade Blvd!
December 18, 2002 Sometimes at our gigs, people ask Bill, our fiddler, to shake his bootie. Sometimes Bill, our fiddler, shakes his bootie at our gigs. Sometimes Bill, our fiddler, doesn't. Up Bill!
December 14, 2002 Sometimes I take Halls out of my mouth and put them on my music stand. Sometimes Gerry looks at me in disgust.
